Today started off rough, but I eventually picked myself up out of that sullied mood I fell into over the weekend. A combination of some meditation and a little puppy love, all driven home with completing a few errands definitely helped turn my day around. Interestingly enough, today marks the end of my little smoke break as well. I made it through a fortnight carbon monoxide free even despite having the opportunity to indulge in my preferred vice. I usually like to take these breaks every now and again for two simple reasons:
1. To keep myself in check and prove that the substance does not hold any power over my habit; I do. 2. To clear my mind of the fogginess that sometimes accompanies long periods of constant altered states of consciousness.
With that said, I did have an additional motivational factor this time around in the form of fitness and athleticism. I’m currently trying out for the national beach soccer team and I’d actually like to take it serious this time. Having previously tried and subsequently failing to make two different national teams prior to this (U20 & Futsal), I’d like to try a different approach this time around. This time, the difference comes in the form of a complete lifestyle change in order to obtain my goal.
Now, I know with moderate certainty that, if executed properly, this alternate lifestyle can be the key to my success. However, I am aware with even greater certainty that the audacious city of Rome was not beautifully constructed in just a matter of 24hrs. Thus, I’m not expecting to simply drop everything cold turkey and just pick up these new habits in a heartbeat. Rather, I’m currently attempting to start by simply weaning myself away from the things I know will not help me while simultaneously trying to gradually introduce new, healthier habits. The hope is to pick up some progressively pervasive patterns of behavior that will allow for me to improve in areas I have deemed necessary. Now it’s just to prove that I can truly commit to this in a way far greater than just developing better habits, but in developing a life long philosophy and lifestyle that is as rewarding as it is genuine.
